☀️ Summer is Here — and We're Booked Up!
It's peak sunny San Diego, and she’s a-flexin'!
Yesterday? 71° and palm trees swaying. Water's warm, sky is clear, and the surf schools (including Saltwater Surf Lessons) are filling up fast. If you're flying in from out of town, here's what you really need to know beyond the forecast:
🌊 We Had a Massive Winter — Again
This past winter brought another round of 20+ ft swells, and with it, devastating erosion. Beaches like La Jolla, Mission Beach, and Ocean Beach were heavily impacted.
Sandbars have been washed out, and California has launched a major dredging operation from Long Beach down to San Diego, actively pumping sand back into place. According to a 2025 report by the California Coastal Commission, emergency beach nourishment efforts are underway along several impacted zones to restore shoreline stability following historic winter surf.
Some of the worst rips we’ve seen in over a decade have shown up this year. One of our main coaches even had to be rescued — a first in 15 years of instruction.
2025 is shaping up to be the most dramatic surf year since the legendary 2009 El Niño cycle.
📉 What’s the Surf Doing This Week?- Surf Report
Finally: mellow summer surf is back.
Wave Height: 1–2 ft (average for June/July)
Conditions: Glassy mornings, mild winds mid-day
Tide Swings: Moderate — check your local tide chart
Hazards: Rips remain in spots, especially post-sandbar dredge
These are ideal conditions for beginner surfers and anyone looking to book a surf lesson in San Diego. After a winter of full-send chaos, our team is so stoked to return to mellow days with forgiving surf and clear skies.
Big surf is epic — but it taxes the body, heart, and mind. Every session becomes an act of sacrifice. We’re beyond grateful for soft shoulders and 2-foot peelers.
